One of New South Wales’ Largest Road Infrastructure Projects

The Warringah Freeway Upgrade is one of New South Wales’ largest and most complex road infrastructure projects, designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity between Sydney’s Northern Beaches, North Shore and the CBD. The project involves significant road widening, new and upgraded ramps, bridge works, and extensive traffic staging to maintain vehicle movements throughout construction.

A Flexible Barrier Solution for a Staged, High-Traffic Build

Workzone Solutions partnered with principal contractors CPB Contractors and Downer to deliver a comprehensive temporary barrier solution that supported the project’s demanding traffic management requirements. Due to the high traffic volumes and multiple construction stages, the project required flexible, high-performance barrier systems that could be installed, relocated and adapted as works progressed.

MASH-Tested Temporary Safety Products Supplied

  • DELTABLOC® K150 temporary concrete barriers for positive protection and lane separation.
  • DELTABLOC® T150 temporary concrete barriers for project-specific traffic management applications.
  • SafeZone® Steel Barrier systems where a lightweight, rapidly deployable barrier solution was required.
  • ABSORB-M® Crash Cushions to protect motorists from impacts with barrier ends and fixed hazards.
  • TAU-M® Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) to safeguard mobile work crews operating within live traffic environments. [LINK NEEDED: TAU-M truck mounted attenuator page, see open question 2]
  • Anti-Gawk Screens installed on temporary barriers to minimise driver distraction, improve safety for road users and protect construction personnel.

Project Outcome

By working closely with CPB Contractors and Downer, Workzone Solutions delivered an integrated temporary barrier package that met the project’s safety, operational and programme requirements. The combination of concrete barriers, steel barriers, crash attenuation systems and visual screening solutions enabled safe traffic management throughout the various construction stages while maintaining efficient traffic flow on one of Sydney’s busiest transport corridors.
