Project Overview

Bankstown Airport has been a key player in Sydney’s aviation scene since it opened its doors in 1939, making it the city’s second major aerodrome. With the new Western Sydney Airport taking shape nearby, Bankstown Airport is gearing up for a major redevelopment to ensure it remains a vital part of the region’s future.

The plans for a commercial precinct to the southwest of the airfield include a 162,000 square meters of new building space, a vibrant mixed-use retail area, and even potential hotel facilities. This development is set to create at least 2,000 new jobs and bolster industries like aviation, warehousing, transport, and logistics.

To get the site ready, some much-needed upgrades are in store for the aging car park that currently serves the small commercial hub. The first order of business is to put in place sturdy physical barriers to enhance safety for both vehicles and pedestrians before construction begins.

Our Solution

Workzone Solutions supplied Deltabloc DB80 concrete jersey kerb barriers to help secure the carpark ahead of development works.

These steel-reinforced barriers are designed to absorb vehicle impacts and provide reliable low-speed protection in environments like carparks, loading bays, and construction zones. While MASH tested to TL-3 standards for speeds up to 100 km/h, they’re just as effective in slow-speed zones where safety still matters.

The installation featured tapered terminal ends, giving a cleaner and safer look. With internal tension bars for added strength, these barriers can be bolted or pinned down if needed. Plus, with various length options available, they were perfect for fitting the carpark’s layout.
