Project Overview

At busy domestic terminals, safety and security for both passengers and ground crew is essential. Gold Coast Airport has enhanced pedestrian control by installing more than 300 Trafix 2000 water filled barriers from Workzone Solutions. These barriers were deployed across the tarmac to manage foot traffic and prevent unauthorised access to operational areas.

Given that walk-on tarmac boarding is a common practice at regional airports, there’s a clear demand for robust yet adaptable solutions that can guide passengers safely to their aircraft while allowing essential ground operations to continue smoothly.

Our Solution

Workzone Solutions has provided over 300 Trafix 2000 pedestrian barriers for the Coolangatta airport terminal. Arranged in neat rows, these lightweight barriers help guide passengers from the gate to the plane, creating safe and organised walkways. Their clever interlocking design establishes clear channels that promote orderly queuing and reduce the chances of passengers wandering too close to service vehicles or aircraft.

Constructed from UV-stable polyethylene, the Trafix 2000 is a breeze to handle when empty, tipping the scales at just 20 kg. However, once filled with water and set in place, it transforms into a sturdy structure weighing 327 kg. This makes it perfect for bustling areas like airports, where there’s a risk of small vehicles, such as baggage carts, coming into contact.

Additionally, these barriers effectively separate people from airside service equipment, including fuel trucks and maintenance vehicles, ensuring both safety and compliance with regulations.
